How it is used
- A shortcoming / weak point / defect - 他有很多缺点 (tā yǒu hěn duō quēdiǎn) he has many flaws.
- 缺 (deficient) + 点 (point); a personal fault or a product's drawback.
- Opposite 优点 (yōudiǎn) 'strong point/merit' - the standard pair. Contrast 错误 (cuòwù) 'a mistake (an error made)'; 缺点 is an inherent weakness, 优点很多 (yōudiǎn hěn duō) many strong points.
