How it is used
- 'Error/mistake' (noun) or 'mistaken/wrong' (adjective) - 犯错误 (fàn cuòwù) make a mistake; 错误的决定 (cuòwù de juédìng) a wrong decision.
- More formal and weightier than the everyday 错 (cuò, wrong): you'd say 我错了 (wǒ cuò le, I'm wrong) in speech, but 严重的错误 in writing.
- Contrast 缺点 (quēdiǎn, a shortcoming/flaw): 错误 is a specific wrong act or belief.
