How it is used

  • "To enter/advance" - 进来 (jìnlái) come in, 进去 (jìnqù) go in, 进入 (jìnrù) enter.
  • As a directional ending it means "in": 走进房间 (zǒujìn fángjiān) walk into the room. Opposite direction is 出 (chū, out) - 走出房间 (zǒuchū fángjiān) walk out of the room.
  • Figuratively "forward/progress" - 前进 (qiánjìn) advance, 促进 (cùjìn) promote.
