How it is used
- To be forced/compelled to do something - 被迫辞职 (bèipò cízhí) forced to resign.
- Marks the action as against one's will; opposite of 自愿 (zìyuàn, voluntary) - 自愿参加 (zìyuàn cānjiā) take part voluntarily.
- The 被 gives it a passive feel: acted upon by circumstance or pressure.
