- "leave, depart from" - takes an object: 离开家 (líkāi jiā) leave home; 他离开了公司 he left the company.
- Contrast bare 走 (zǒu, go/leave) which needs no object, and 离 (lí), which marks distance: 离这儿很远 far from here.
