How it is used
- Negative/passive/unmotivated - 消极态度 (xiāojí tàidù) a passive attitude, 消极怠工 to work half-heartedly.
- Note: 消极 = passive/pessimistic/uncooperative in outlook; it is NOT the arithmetic 'negative number' (that's 负 fù).
- Opposite of 积极 (jījí, active/positive/proactive) - the standard pair, 积极参加 (jījí cānjiā) take an active part.
- 消极影响 (xiāojí yǐngxiǎng) = a negative/detrimental influence.
