How it is used
- 'Come from' + a source or place, taken directly with no 从 - 他来自北京 (tā láizì Běijīng) he's from Beijing; 来自各国的游客 (láizì gèguó de yóukè) tourists from all over.
- More written/formal than the spoken 从…来 (cóng…lái); you'd say 他从北京来 in casual speech.
- Works for abstract sources too - 压力来自工作 (yālì láizì gōngzuò) the pressure comes from work.
