How it is used
- An adjective/noun for scholarship and academia, always attributive or referring to the field itself: 学术论文 (xuéshù lùnwén) - academic paper; 学术界 (xuéshùjiè) - academic circles. Formal, written register. Don't confuse with 学习 (xuéxí), the everyday act of studying - 学术 is about research and scholarly work, not homework.
