How it is used

  • Means to send out, emit, or issue something outward: 发出声音 (fāchū shēngyīn) make/give off a sound, 发出通知 (fāchū tōngzhī) issue a notice.
  • Also used for emitting light or a laugh: 发出笑声 (fāchū xiàoshēng).
  • Contrast with 发送 fāsòng, which is specifically about transmitting or dispatching a document, message, or package to a recipient.

Example sentences

  • 我们昨天发出了邀请。 Wǒmen zuótiān fāchū le yāoqǐng.We sent out the invitations yesterday.
