How it is used
- To notify/inform, or a notice - 请通知大家 (qǐng tōngzhī dàjiā) please inform everyone; 收到通知 (shōudào tōngzhī) receive a notice.
- Both verb and noun. Contrast 告诉 (gàosu, to tell, personal/casual): 通知 is more official - an organization informing people of a decision or event.
- Common: 开会通知 (kāihuì tōngzhī) meeting notice, 录取通知书 (lùqǔ tōngzhīshū) admission letter.
