How it is used
- No need to / needn't - 不用谢 (búyòng xiè) don't mention it, 你不用来 (nǐ búyòng lái) you don't have to come.
- Negates necessity (= 不需要 bù xūyào), not permission. Contrast 不能 (bùnéng) can't/mustn't; 不用 says it's unnecessary, not forbidden.
