- The forenoon, roughly from after dawn to noon - 上午九点 (shàngwǔ jiǔ diǎn) 9 a.m.
- In the day frame 上午 morning / 中午 noon / 下午 afternoon / 晚上 evening; 上午 is broader than 早上 (early morning).
- 午 is 'noon', so 上午 = 'before noon', 下午 = 'after noon'.
