午 wǔ noon
How it came to be
A pestle, drawn with the thick head at the bottom and the grip above. It was borrowed for the seventh calendar sign, whose hour is the middle of the day; the pestle was left behind.
How it is used
- 'Noon' - 中午 (zhōngwǔ) midday, the axis for the parts of the day: 上午 (shàngwǔ) morning, 下午 (xiàwǔ) afternoon.
- 午饭 (wǔfàn) / 午餐 (wǔcān) = lunch.
