How it came to be
A tower seen from the front: a roof at the top, a storey with a window under it, and the doorway at ground level. Storey on storey, it stands high.
How it is used
- 'High / tall' - 高楼 (gāolóu) tall building, 身高 (shēngāo) height, 提高 (tígāo) to raise/improve.
- 高兴 (gāoxìng) means happy/glad - literally 'high spirits'.
- 高中 (gāozhōng) is senior high school (高 = upper), paired against 初中 (chūzhōng) junior high.
