How it is used
- To feel unwell / uncomfortable, physically or emotionally - 我肚子难受 (wǒ dùzi nánshòu) my stomach feels bad; 心里很难受 feel awful inside.
- 难 (hard) + 受 (to bear) = hard to endure; covers both bodily discomfort and sadness/distress.
- Contrast 难过 (nánguò), which is specifically emotional 'sad/upset'; 难受 also covers physical discomfort.
