How it is used

  • Physical discomfort, feeling unwell - 身体不适 (shēntǐ búshì) feeling out of sorts; 胃部不适 (wèibù búshì) stomach discomfort.
  • Formal/medical register, common in notices and doctor talk; more genteel than 难受 (nánshòu, to feel awful).
  • 适 here is 'comfortable/suited', negated to 'not comfortable'.
