How it is used
- "There; that place" - 他在那里工作 (tā zài nàlǐ gōngzuò) he works there. The written-neutral twin of spoken 那儿.
- Can also soften a compliment reply: 哪里哪里 (nǎlǐ nǎlǐ, the question word) is the modest "oh, not at all" - don't confuse the two tones.
