How it is used
- The formal word for holding an election or electing someone - 选举总统 (xuǎnjǔ zǒngtǒng) elect a president; 参加选举 (cānjiā xuǎnjǔ) take part in an election.
- Both verb and noun. Distinguish from 选择 (xuǎnzé, to choose in general): 选举 is specifically voting people into office.
- Pairs with 选举权 (voting rights), 选举结果 (election results).
