How it is used
- Oversupply / excess beyond what's needed - 产能过剩 (chǎnnéng guòshèng) overcapacity; 供给过剩 excess supply.
- Economic register mostly; also 精力过剩 (jīnglì guòshèng, having excess energy), 营养过剩 over-nutrition.
- 过剩 = surplus that becomes a problem; 剩下 (shèngxià) is just "leftover." Opposite of 短缺 (duǎnquē, shortage) - 食物短缺 (shíwù duǎnquē) a food shortage.
