How it is used
- To dismiss / let someone go from a job - 公司辞退了几名员工 (gōngsī cítuì le jǐ míng yuángōng) the company dismissed several employees.
- The employer is the subject; it's a firing/laying-off (被辞退 to be let go).
- Contrast with 辞职 (cízhí, the employee quits) - same 辞 but opposite direction. 辞退 is softer/more formal than the blunt 开除 (kāichú, to expel/sack).
