How it is used
- To misunderstand / a misunderstanding - 产生误解 (chǎnshēng wùjiě) to give rise to a misunderstanding.
- Getting someone's meaning or intent wrong; both verb and noun: 消除误解 (xiāochú wùjiě) to clear up a misunderstanding.
- Contrast 误会 (wùhuì), which more often means an interpersonal mix-up/hurt feelings; 误解 can also be misreading facts or ideas.
