How it is used
- To eliminate/remove/dispel (usually something abstract and negative) - 消除误会 (xiāochú wùhuì) clear up a misunderstanding, 消除疲劳 (xiāochú píláo) relieve fatigue, 消除隐患 (xiāochú yǐnhuàn) remove hidden dangers.
- About getting rid of worries, doubts, obstacles, or risks; gentler than 消灭 (xiāomiè, annihilate).
