- To give a formal reply / a response - 等待答复 (děngdài dáfù) await a reply, 给个答复 (gěi ge dáfù) give an answer.
- An official/considered response to a request or question, more formal than 回答 (huídá, answer a question); often to petitions, letters, demands.
