How it is used
- Purpose / aim / goal - 学习的目的 (xuéxí de mùdì) the purpose of studying; 达到目的 (dádào mùdì) achieve one's aim.
- Note 的 is read de here, but the whole word is mùdì (a fixed reading). Contrast 目标 (mùbiāo, a target/objective, something concrete to hit): 目的 is the underlying reason or intent.
- Common: 目的地 (mùdìdì) destination.
