How it is used
- Flowing freely, unobstructed - 道路畅通 (dàolù chàngtōng) the road is clear, 信息畅通 (xìnxī chàngtōng) information flows freely.
- Applies to traffic, communication channels, pipelines - anything that should move without blockage; opposite 堵塞 (dǔsè, clogged), 交通堵塞 (jiāotōng dǔsè) a traffic jam.
- Also the phrase 畅通无阻 (chàngtōng wúzǔ) clear and unimpeded.
