How it is used
- As a matter of course, naturally right - 他理所当然地当上了队长 (tā lǐsuǒdāngrán de dāngshàngle duìzhǎng) he became captain as a matter of course.
- Can approve (obviously proper) or criticize (taking things for granted): 把帮助当成理所当然 (treat help as one's due).
- Functions adverbially with 地 or as a predicate; contrast 想当然 (xiǎngdāngrán), to assume wrongly without checking.
