How it is used
- 'Treat/regard X as Y' - 别把玩笑当成真的 (bié bǎ wánxiào dàngchéng zhēn de) don't take a joke as real.
- Here 当 is read dàng (fourth tone, 'to regard as'), not dāng. Almost always follows a 把 object: 把A当成B.
- Near-synonym 当作 (dàngzuò) is more written/formal; 当成 is the everyday spoken choice with the same meaning.
