How it is used
- Names a span of time 'during which' something holds - 假期期间 (jiàqī qījiān) during the holidays; 会议期间 (huìyì qījiān) during the meeting.
- It follows the event/period it modifies, unlike 时候 which is more general. It marks a bounded stretch, not a point in time.
- Register is neutral-to-formal, common in news and announcements.
