How it is used
- To collect/gather (items or information) - 收集资料 (shōují zīliào) gather materials; 收集邮票 collect stamps.
- Bringing scattered things together deliberately (data, samples, hobbies). Distinguish from 搜集 (sōují, to collect by searching, near-synonym often for hard-to-find info) and 采集 (cǎijí, to collect/sample specimens).
- 收 (gather in) + 集 (assemble).
