How it is used
- To remind / alert someone - 提醒我一下 (tíxǐng wǒ yíxià) remind me; 谢谢你的提醒 (xièxie nǐ de tíxǐng) thanks for the heads-up.
- 提 (raise) + 醒 (wake) - 'to wake up someone's memory'. Contrast 记得 (jìde, to remember, oneself): 提醒 is prompting another person.
- Also 'to warn of': 提醒你注意安全 (tíxǐng nǐ zhùyì ānquán) remind/warn you to be careful.
