How it is used
- To enlarge/expand a scope or scale - 扩大规模 (kuòdà guīmó) expand the scale; 扩大影响 broaden one's influence.
- Takes abstract scope objects (范围/影响/生产/招生). Opposite is 缩小 (suōxiǎo, to shrink) - 缩小范围 (suōxiǎo fànwéi) narrow the scope.
- Distinguish from 扩张 (kuòzhāng, expansion, often territorial/aggressive) and 放大 (fàngdà, to magnify an image).
