How it is used
- A benefactor - someone who did you a life-changing kindness you feel deep gratitude for - 你是我的救命恩人 (nǐ shì wǒ de jiùmìng ēnrén) you're my lifesaver/benefactor.
- Weightier than English "benefactor"; implies a real debt of gratitude, often life-or-death (救命恩人).
- Warm, sincere register; the opposite pole is 仇人 (chóurén, enemy) - 两人成了仇人 (liǎng rén chéng le chóurén) the two became enemies.
