How it is used
- To power on / boot up a device - 电脑开机很慢 (diànnǎo kāijī hěn màn) the computer boots up slowly. Opposite is 关机 (guānjī, shut down / power off), 电脑关机 (diànnǎo guānjī) shut down the computer.
- In the film industry it means to start shooting: 这部电影下周开机 (zhè bù diànyǐng xiàzhōu kāijī) this movie starts filming next week.
