How it is used
- To deal with / cope with a troublesome person or problem - 这种客户很难对付 (zhè zhǒng kèhù hěn nán duìfu) this kind of client is hard to handle.
- Carries an adversarial or 'making do' flavor: you 对付 an enemy, a pest, or 对付着穿 (duìfu zhe chuān) make do wearing it; contrast neutral 处理 (chǔlǐ, process/handle).
- Second sense = get by / make do, often 对付一下 (duìfu yīxià) rough it for now.
