大型 dàxíng large
large; large-scale
How to remember 大型: 大 big + 型 pattern = large.
Characters
How it is used
- 大型 (dàxíng) means "large-scale," and is strictly attributive - it must sit directly before a noun.
- Common collocations: 大型活动 (dàxíng huódòng, large-scale event), 大型企业 (dàxíng qǐyè, large enterprise), 大型演出 (large-scale performance).
- Learner trap: unlike 大 (dà), 大型 cannot be used as a standalone predicate - you can't say 这个很大型 ("this is very large-type"); you'd just say 这个很大 or use 大型 + noun.
- Signals scale/scope specifically, not just physical size of one object - a company or an event is 大型, but a single big apple is just 大.
Example sentences
