- Run a fever - 孩子发烧了 (háizi fāshāo le) the child has a fever, 发高烧 (fā gāoshāo) run a high fever.
- A verb-object compound, so it splits: 发了两天烧 (fāle liǎng tiān shāo) had a fever for two days. Slang 发烧友 (fāshāoyǒu) means an enthusiast/fanatic (of a hobby).
