How it is used
- Means friendship as a warm feeling, more emotional/literary than the neutral standard word 友谊 yǒuyì, which is used for formal relationships (e.g. between countries: 中德友谊).
- Common in songs, ads and casual writing: 友情提示 (yǒuqíng tíshì) "friendly reminder," 友情客串 (yǒuqíng kèchuàn) "friendly guest appearance."
- Not usually used for formal diplomatic or institutional ties - reach for 友谊 there instead.
