How it is used
- To become void / invalid; to nullify - 车票过期作废 (chēpiào guòqī zuòfèi) the ticket becomes invalid after expiry.
- For tickets, contracts, documents losing legal force; also to cancel/scrap: 宣布作废 (declare void).
- Contrast 取消 (qǔxiāo, cancel an event/plan); 作废 specifically renders a document/credential无效 worthless.
