How it is used
- A written connective 'and / as well as', joining nouns or clauses - 苹果、香蕉以及葡萄 (píngguǒ, xiāngjiāo yǐjí pútao) apples, bananas, and grapes.
- More formal than 和 (hé, and); often introduces the last, sometimes secondary, item(s) in a list.
- Can link phrases/clauses, not just single nouns, which 和 does less naturally.
