- Describes a general attitude, not a passing mood: 乐观的态度 (an optimistic attitude), 对未来很乐观 (optimistic about the future).
- Direct opposite of 悲观 (bēiguān, pessimistic) - 悲观的人 (bēiguān de rén) a pessimistic person.
- Typically modified with 很/太/非常 and used to describe a person's overall outlook rather than a single happy moment.
