下雨 xiàyǔ raining
How to remember 下雨: 下 down + 雨 rain = raining.

How it is used
- A verb-object 'to rain' - 下雨了 (xià yǔ le) it's raining / it's started to rain.
- The two halves can split: 下大雨 (xià dà yǔ) rain heavily. Snow works the same way as 下雪 (xià xuě).
Example sentences
- 外面在下雨。 Wàimian zài xiàyǔ.It's raining outside.
- 下雨了，可是我还是要出门。 Xiàyǔ le, kěshì wǒ háishi yào chūmén.Even though it's raining I still have to go out.
- 天好像要下雨了。 Tiān hǎoxiàng yào xiàyǔ le.It seems that it it is going to rain.
- 估计晚上会下雨。 Gūjì wǎnshang huì xiàyǔ.I think it will rain tonight.
