How it came to be
A net over the specialist block. Things caught and laid out in order: a list of names, then the office keeping it. It has no old form and dates from the Han period.
How it is used
- A government office/bureau, and to sign/arrange - 署名 (shǔmíng) to sign one's name (署名文章 a signed article), 签署 (qiānshǔ) to sign (a formal document/treaty), 部署 (bùshǔ) to deploy/arrange (troops, tasks).
- 公署 (gōngshǔ) / 税务署 are government bureaus. Formal/official register.
