源How it came to be

An overhanging rock seen from the side: the ledge along the top, and the face dropping away beneath it. Everything the character puts underneath is standing in that shelter, or being cut out of it.

用How it is used

• 'Factory, workshop' - 工厂 (gōngchǎng) factory, 厂家 (chǎngjiā) manufacturer, 厂商 (chǎngshāng) firm/vendor.
• 出厂 (chūchǎng) = to leave the factory: 出厂价 (chūchǎngjià) factory/wholesale price.
• As a radical 厂 means 'cliff' (read hǎn), but as a standalone word it's chǎng, factory.
