How it came to be
A pestle, the noon block, with a foot and a kneeling figure. Somebody getting down and taking the harness off. There is no ancient form; it was built late from three familiar parts.
How it is used
- To take off/unload/lay down a load or duty - 卸货 (xiè huò) to unload cargo, 卸妆 (xièzhuāng) to remove makeup, 卸任 (xièrèn) to step down from office.
- The mirror of 装 (zhuāng, to load/install): 卸载 (xièzài) = to uninstall software / unload.
- 推卸责任 (tuīxiè zérèn) = to shirk responsibility, literally to push a duty off oneself.
