How it came to be
A blade with the handle curving back off it. On the right edge of a character it stands up and straightens into the knife block.
How it is used
- Knife / blade - 一把刀 (yì bǎ dāo) a knife (measure word 把), 菜刀 (càidāo) kitchen cleaver, 刀子 (dāozi) knife.
- 剪刀 (jiǎndāo) scissors.
- Note the measure word 把, shared with other hand-held tools (伞, 椅子).
