击 jī to strike
to strike; to hit; to beat; to attack
How it came to be
A hand under a cart-shaft hitting something, in the full form. The simple form cut the hand away and left four strokes and a stand, which no longer draw the blow.
How it is used
- Means to strike/hit/attack - 打击 (dǎjī) to strike/crack down on; 攻击 (gōngjī) to attack; 反击 (fǎnjī) counterattack.
- Very productive in combat/impact words: 冲击 (chōngjī) impact, 射击 (shèjī) shoot, and computing 点击 (diǎnjī) to click.
