- Locational noun for the inside of something - 箱子里面 (xiāngzi lǐmiàn) inside the box; 屋子里面很暖和 (wūzi lǐmiàn hěn nuǎnhuo) it's warm inside the room.
- Interchangeable with bare 里 (lǐ) but more explicit/standalone; 里 attaches tightly to the noun (家里), 里面 can stand alone (在里面 inside).
