- The formal verb for being admitted/accepted after selection - 他被北大录取了 (tā bèi Běidà lùqǔ le) he was admitted to Peking University.
- Specifically about passing a gate (exam, application): schools, jobs, programs. Not for casually 'accepting' an offer.
- Distinguish from 接受 (jiēshòu, to accept generally) and 收到 (shōudào, to receive): 录取 is the institution choosing you, so it's usually passive (被录取).
