- Agree to / approve - 我同意你的看法 (wǒ tóngyì nǐ de kànfǎ) I agree with your view; 他不同意 (tā bù tóngyì) he doesn't consent.
- Agreeing with an opinion or granting approval, takes the thing agreed to as object. Contrast 答应 (dāying, promise/agree to do) and 赞成 (zànchéng, be in favor of).
- Not the same as 同样 (tóngyàng, the same) despite sharing 同.
