- To train or instruct, with an edge of discipline. 训练 (xùnliàn) is systematic training - 军事训练 (jūnshì xùnliàn) military training.
- 培训 (péixùn) is job/skills training (courses, programs); 训练 is drilling for competence (athletes, soldiers).
- 教训 (jiàoxùn) has two faces: a noun 'lesson learned' (吸取教训 xīqǔ jiàoxùn draw a lesson) and a verb 'to scold/tell off'.
